Case Study:
GIGE
Where Tech, Talent and Suppliers Converge.
Designing for the People Shaping the Future of Work.
The GIGE is not a general interest conference. It is a destination. Staffing leaders, technology partners, enterprise buyers, gig economy platform providers, VMS and MSP suppliers, and the executives navigating the full spectrum of contingent workforce innovation all come here for one reason: To be in the same room as the people reshaping how work gets done.
People pay real money to attend this conference. They plan for it. They clear their calendars. Technology suppliers wait all year for the opportunity to get in front of a Fortune 500 audience, backed by the credibility Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA) brings. The networking alone is worth the registration fee. The sessions are a bonus. The design supporting all of it had to communicate, immediately and without ambiguity, that this event was worth every dollar and every hour spent getting there.
This was the conference where I first designed around a theme rather than a location. The theme was built right into the title: Where Tech, Talent, and Suppliers Converge. That became the visual brief.
Employer
Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA) is the global authority on staffing and workforce solutions, founded in 1989 and headquartered in Mountain View, California. SIA serves both suppliers and buyers of workforce solutions through proprietary research, data, training, accreditation, and executive conferences. Their conferences carry significant credibility within the staffing industry. Being endorsed by SIA, appearing on their stage, or exhibiting at their events signals something real about the quality of your organization and what it offers.
The GIGE brought together the contingent workforce management community at a moment when the gig economy was evolving rapidly. Platform models, technology disruption, talent supply chain innovation, and the changing nature of contingent work were all converging at once. The conference existed to make sense of that convergence, face to face, among the people driving it. SIA has since evolved the conference into CollaborationX: AI and Tech in Staffing and Workforce Solutions, reflecting how the conversation has expanded into artificial intelligence. The audience and the energy remain the same.
My Role
Graphic Design Manager, Art Director, and Digital Designer.
As Graphic Design Manager at SIA, I was responsible for conceiving and building the full visual identity for the GIGE conference. That meant developing the design concept, building every asset in the marketing package, and maintaining visual consistency across 40+ deliverables spanning web, digital, social media, print, signage, a conference booklet, and a website layout in Adobe XD.
The Design Concept
The theme "Where Tech, Talent, and Suppliers Converge" told me exactly what the design needed to do. It needed to feel technological without feeling cold. It needed to communicate connection: People in motion, ideas moving between them, the energy of a room where relationships are being built and deals are being made.
The hero image brought those two ideas together. A technological background, referencing the digital infrastructure that powers the gig economy, set the visual tone. Against that, people on their smart devices, close together, communicating and networking. Not posed. Active. The image suggested what the conference actually was: A place where technology and human connection happened simultaneously, because that is exactly what was going on in the room.
Within SIA's established brand framework, the full marketing package covered:
Conference Hero Image
Website Subpage Header
Keynote Speaker LinkedIn and Twitter Social Badges
Website Community Header
Website Homepage Slider
Conference Booklet
PowerPoint Slides
Banner, Website, Sponsor Badge, Speaker Badge, Press Ad, Conference Signage, Microsite Slides and Skyscraper Ad
Conference Signage, Conference Microsite & Skyscraper Ads
Conference Environmental Signs
What This Work Demonstrates
Theme-Driven Conference Identity
Building a conference identity around a theme rather than a location is a different creative challenge. The theme has to carry across every format, from the hero image on the website to the smallest social badge, without becoming decorative. The technological imagery and networking energy built into this visual system did that work across every deliverable in the package.
Technology and Gig Economy Industry Experience
The GIGE sits at the intersection of workforce management, gig platforms, and technology innovation. Designing for this audience required understanding both the industry and the people driving it. The work reflects direct experience with that audience at the design management level.
High-Volume Digital Conference Production
A full marketing package of more than 40 assets, delivered across web, social media, print, presentation, signage, and booklet formats, is a production challenge as much as a creative one. Every asset has to meet the same standard. Maintaining that level of consistency across more than 40 deliverables required equal parts creative direction and disciplined production.
The Impact
The GIGE went forward as a live in-person event at a moment when in-person gatherings were not guaranteed. People braved the uncertainty to be there because this conference is the place where relationships in the contingent workforce technology space get built, where suppliers get in front of enterprise buyers, and where the conversations that shape the industry's direction actually happen. The design had to honor that by showing up at the level the audience expected.
The visual identity reinforced the conference's central idea: Technology creates opportunities, but meaningful business still happens through people. The design brought those two ideas together before a single session began.
